Postnatal Yoga

Make yourself a priority after pregnancy and childbirth by bringing your baby along to postnatal yoga, aimed at mums within their first year postnatally.

Classes are fully funded by Active Essex which means they are completely free to attend.

In postnatal yoga classes we will work on rebuilding strength, stamina, stability and mobility in the body after having a baby, as well releasing common areas of tension that come with motherhood.

It doesn't matter how your baby arrived, your body has undergone huge transformation during pregnancy, childbirth and those first days of motherhood. Postnatal yoga will not only benefit you physically by working on rebuilding strength in specific areas of the body while opening and releasing in others, but the classes are also designed to nurture mothers, offering the chance to enjoy some gentle movement, bond with baby and give the mind something to focus on other than nappy changes and feeding schedules.

Classes are designed for mum with lots of opportunities to involve baby in some of the postures. There is no pressure in these classes, you can do as much or as little as you like on any particular day. Babies are welcome to feed, sleep, poop, cry, move around as much as they need during class. Please do not worry as we have all been there!

You don't need to have any yoga experience but please do check with your GP or midwife when would be a good time to start classes. Generally, 6 weeks postnatally for vaginal births is recommended. For caesarean births a little longer, at least 8-12 weeks.
